I discovered this mix on a website and what a discovery it
was, just over an hour of intense banging tunes making it an audible
delight :) And so to a review.
The mix starts off by ripping
you back to your childhood with some samples taken from The
Transformers movie and suddenly memories of dashing about shouting
"Transformers: Robots in disguise" just two weeks ago don't seem so
silly any more because it becomes apparant that someone else has a
fetish with them as well ... heh. But seriously, the opening of the
CD is excellent - Morgan told me that he created it himself, piecing
it together with sound effects echoes and reverb - the end result is
great and it's nice to see that he hasn't only put thought into the
mix and tunes but has added a little bit of character to it as well.
5 points if ever I saw them.
What follows on from this
opening is over an hour of tight, concise, to the point and
unobtrusive mixing. I doubt that there is actually a mix that fails
to impress and not once does what Morgan is doing stand in the way
of what are some brilliant brilliant tunes. Up until now I was under
the impression that this scene (nuNRG, UK-Hardhouse etc) was
predominant only in the UK but this mix has definitely proven
otherwise. The track selection is excellent, there isn't a single
track which isn't a totally storming one, and what's more each of
the tracks is mixed excellently and naturally into the next track.
It's tight and clean mixing - one of the best mixes comes between
tracks 10 (Tasty - Make it Rock) and 11 (Cortina - Higher) - the
drop in of the second track is amazing as it stabs right into the
mix and tantalises you as your ears know what to expect but you have
to wait as it is drawn out. When it finally falls in it's bliss :)
Totally expert mix, and if you're going to listen to the set at all
it's that one that you want to hear it for :))
Another thing
that I like in this mix is the use of the last track - OK I haven't
heard it before (Madam Zu - Matrix on Mohawk records) but it uses
samples of (yes, you guessed it) the matrix. Now I'm pretty sure
that throughout the whole mix Morgan keeps dropping in them samples
which sounds pretty cool (if he isn't then I am going mad and
hearing things... or there is more than one tune in the mix that
uses the sample "the red pill"... whatever it's cool, I like it).
The Madam Zu track also makes for a great ending as the mix ends
with the final sample "All I'm offering is the truth": if it's the
truth about nuNRG and hard house then it's a truth I like :)
The progression of the mix is like a set (probably to be
played around 1.30 am ish just as all your pills are kicking in:)
and would suit them guys down at trancentral down to the ground - if
you can't get off yer face on this then u're a little odd :)
Throughout it's a wonderful display of sounds and samples, whirring
303's stabbing hoovers all over a four to the floor beat somewhere
in the realms of 150bpm+. Yum Yum Yum. Mixed brilliantly, selected
brillianty, produced well... what more do we need? oh, except MORE
MIXES! :)
(incase u wondered there is another mix on morgans
page ... please go download these mixes - people doing stuff like
this need all the recognition they can get...)
DJ Morgan
certainly earns my respect.
